Wierd midi problem.

Postby machielve on Wed Mar 21, 2012 5:59 pm

Hi all.

I just made a vst midi effect to controll my korg ES MK2 so the knobs on my screen send NRPN MIDI singnals to my ES MK2. In Synthmaker this works fine.
Then I saved it as a VST. I can add it to my DAW, no problem and in my DAW i can use my mouse on the VSTto change the correct values, works perfectly.
Next i try to automate the knob using MIDI CC in my DAW, this works half. I can see the knob turning due to the automation in my VST but the sound does not change. But as soon as i use my mouse again I can tweak the sound as intended.

But since i just strated using Synthmaker yesterday I am a bit stuck with where to look for a missing link. Who can help me and point me in the right direction.

Perhaps you should route the incoming midi (CCs from your daw automation) to the midi out, inside your vst, like a midi thru, to also control your Korg.

That would be a hell of a lot easier, but the problem with my Korg is that it needs NRPN messages, so i still need to convert the incomming (in the vst) CC message to NRPN before i can send them out to my Korg. But i can give it a try to bypass the knob for a temp fix.

So i tried to bypass the knob and see if direct CC converted to NRPN will work, no luck. Both the knob and the incomming CC have the same range 0-127. But the output will only change when i use the knob with my mouse, not when it receives midi in messages.

So i've been trying to find where it goes wrong and I found it. But i have no idea how to fix it. so if you know how, please help me. Attached is the NRPN maker for the delay depth. It receives at value between 0 and 127 and creates a NRPN message out of it. There are 3 ways to send that value.
1. Use the mouse to turn the knob.
2. Use a midi controller or DAW automation to turn the knob.
3. Use a midi controller or DAW automation to send the CC value directly in the NRPN maker.

But the only way to get midi out of the NRPN maker is when i use the 1ste methode. And where it goes wrong is in the midi event module. Before that, it is the correct value when i use alle the methods, but after the midi event module it only changes when i use methode 1.

Hello machielve and welcome to the forum!
It's hard to isolate the problem without having your osm. There could be various reasons why it doesen't work (e.g. wrong triggering, false CC numbers etc.). So please upload your schematic and you'll have much better chances to get help.

And BTW if you're in trouble and seek help your posts are better placed at the "Help" forum... ;)
