simple trick to save cpu

Postby Lui on Sun Apr 29, 2012 5:22 pm

here's an idea that i randomly came into my head this morning. it's so simple that most of y'all probably know this anyway.
as you see on the picture, this is how you can chain a filter up to 4 times, without increasing the cpu use.

do you know other simple tricks to save cpu?

Why are you creating a -48 dB slope which is detrimental to overall response of the audio signal?

that's just an example. you could do it with a 6dB filter and then choose between 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB without extra cpu cost.

Because we can! ;)
Feel free to use any schematics and algorithms I post on the forum in your own designs - a credit is appreciated (but not a requirement).
Don't stagnate, mutate to create. Without randomness and serendipity the earth would be just another barren rock.

...And if you don't think it's any good for the audio chain, what about for a side-chain? ;)

You know what, that's quite a smart trick. I can use this one.
Addictive synthesis.

Synthmaker’s limitation is definitely not in frequency realm. :)

Possibly an unnatural response is Lui's goal why the need for such a dB slope.
