It would be a shame to lose the community that has developed around this forum, lots of like minded people in one place can only be a good thing for collaborations and the sharing of audio DSP related knowledge so I've set up a Facebook group for anyone who would like to stay in contact when/if they pull the plug here. :)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/410931268969967/

Edit: It would appear that you can now attach files in Facebook so sharing OSMs is also possible :)

As far I remember - Facebook owns your content, you are not the owner of that content?
Need to take a break? Looking for relaxing sounds? I have something right for you.
(by purchasing, you are also supporting further development of related projects).
Thank you for your contribution.

Seems to be a slightly complex issue, but this article suggests that if your privacy settings are set to not-public then your content will definitely not be used by Facebook. I'm not entirely sure Facebook would actually know what to do with an OSM anyway! If you are still concerned it would be possible to set up a Dropbox to be used with the group for more sensitive files: http://db.tt/h3DpTcB

Edit: For those who don't know, Dropbox is a service offering several free gigabytes of space which allows you to share links to your content.

Edit 2: Might help if I actually shared the link to the article I was talking about

if it's true that this forum will be closed, maybe someone of the forum moderators can ask for a sql backup of the database then the forum can be migrated to a new server.
It looks a little bit crazy that all the knowledge accumulated on this forum will not be available after the sm+fs marriage.

especially in times where a blank DVD costs only a few cent and the whole forum would fit on that....

This is probably related to community ads only and handled automatically. No one on Facebook should ever care about programming stuff. And they can't take your intelectual property away from you!

I believe shared folder with .osm files could do the trick! I never tried it with more than 2 people, but why not?
I could set it up and invite all of you, just need a request and e-mail.
Also, can get additional space for invitations :P

Hi All.

Good to see you Walter - I hope you don't feel that I imposed on you with my e-mail (likewise the other people I contacted). As you say, there were some of us who had premonitions that this would come sooner or later. My lack of trust in the company, and suspicion of their disregard for SM users is not new - hence emailing a few of you with post contents as a precaution.

I have been PM'd by a few people regarding the resurrection of the SM site, so I thought I'd make my position clear to you all together - it's great to see so many messages, but really I just want to do something else for a while to clear my head.

I totally agree that the site contents should be saved, if OutSim won't do it, but you can, that is great.
But I mostly stuck it out with SM for so long because of the people and atmosphere here. The spell is broken now - I don't think a clone site will ever be quite the same, because we will always be scratching this itch. And I don't want to be stuck with obsolete software - I love making weird noise machines, and I don't want to find that my next PC upgrade breaks all my toys.
Really, I knew that from the moment of the announcement - I just stuck around because I wanted to show my solidarity, and make sure that OutSim knew damn well how I felt about their treatment of us.

I have copied all the addresses for your new digs, and no doubt will pop into those places to say hello, but I really am not interested in being one of the 'gurus' at a new SM-only site - though I am very flattered that you are so keen to see more of my drunken late-night weirdness... ;)

Time to take my own advice...
"Don't stagnate, mutate to create..."
...as it has said all along in my signature.

Hope to catch up with you all in your new hang-outs,
Trog.
Feel free to use any schematics and algorithms I post on the forum in your own designs - a credit is appreciated (but not a requirement).

I kinda wish there was ONE place all the X-SMers could hang out at. Right now there is 3-4... kinda confusing?
Need help? First search the forum & WiKi, then post in the help forum with a clear topic, request, & OSM. Then please WiKi the correct solution. If you want my personal assistance, I charge by the hour or for an exchange of services.

People and good folks please join in here if you are on fazebrock:

This is the link from the first post in this thread. It will certanly not be a substitute for this forum. But it is a place to hang out and catch up. I will miss all the friendly and helpful people in here if this is going where it seems to do. I know that some of you real oldtimers have mail contact and such, but it would be great to se you join in over there to.
