Order of automatable VST parameters is a big mess -.-

Postby noise_maker on Sat Mar 13, 2010 9:12 pm

Please fix this :S
I lost so much time making presets and then the VST parameters order of the plugin was changed in the next versions and all the preset and projects became a real mess.. -.-

In FL synthmaker there is an option in the "schematic" menu to reorder preset parameters. This might do what you want, not sure though never tested it.

Strangely that option does not show up in the full version of SM. :S

Cheers ;)

I've "fixed" it by copying the VSTpara which show first to those that I wanted to put first...

It could be much easier if we could actually see the parameters on a seperate window and reorder them manual.

oh, I've just written a note on the other post, did you see it?
Well, anyway a "separate window" was already requested in "Ideas and Requests", if I remember well... :)

not quite off-topic: there is still the issue that the ORION sequencer does not display all automation parameters (only a small subset) and I couldn't figure a pattern which parameters will be skipped. So Malc if you are looking into this issue, could you also check for this related issue. (I posted a question on the ORION support forums but got no answer yet.)

+1 for an ordering option. As I see it for now the only possibility is to put numbers upfront since their appear sorted (correct me if I'm wrong).

There is a way to do this.

1. Go inside your Preset Manager module and locate the Preset Text File primitive (in the standard Preset Manager module this is inside the Save/Load sub module)

2. Set the Order input for that component to True

3. From the File menu on the Preset Manager GUI select 'Save All Programs' , choose a filename and location and save

4. Go to the file system and open the text file. It's easier to use Excel or any other spreadsheet app but you can also use a text editor - just be careful not to delete the tabs

5. You should see an 'Order' column filled with -1 values, change these values to set the order of the parameters from 0 upwards. Save as text file when you are finished.

6. Go back to your PM File menu and choose Load All Programs pointing it to the file you just changed

When you export to VST the order should now be changed.

If you add new parameters to your schematic you can repeat steps 3-6. Orders that have already been set will be preserved but if you want to insert a parameter then you'll obviously need to re-shuffle things.

If you use a spreadsheet app then an easy way to do a reshuffle is to select all the parameter rows (so that's the rows below the row with the headings Parameter, Type, Order etc.) and then sort them by the Order column ascending. Now move rows around to get the order you want and then simply fill down from 0 on the order column to set the order values.

You can also set program names by editing the column headings that appear after the Order column heading.

If you don't set the ordering then they are ordered in ascending alphabetical order (so yes bootsy, your assumption is correct).

This is the key point, bu does NOT work.
I attached the text files work on my plugin, if you load
the file "Spirale Start" (one of my presets) you'll see that
ordering it's been done but is uneffective... xP

It's not the ordering in the text file that changes - parameters will always appear in their schematic order when saved out to a text file. What changes is the order they appear in the host.

The text files you've posted all have the correct order numbers assigned to them.

Hi Guys, I had to do some of this stuff myself and I figured it would be easier to just write a utility to help. This replaces the text editor or spreadsheet program in Malc's description above.

However, before you follow steps 1 to 3, save a preset first WITHOUT ordering. This utility will add all the required parameters and headings. I believe you still have to set the ordering to true on the preset manager after. This utility has 2 list boxes, the left list box contains the un-ordered preset text file. You select the parameters from the first list box and add them to the second list box using the ">" button. Whatever order the second list box is in, is how your preset text file will be ordered. Simply click save and your preset will be saved and ordered. DON'T save to the same filename as I have not fully tested this. I Don't want to see you loose a preset in case there is a flaw somewhere. Also this does not work on banks, only single preset text files.

Also, this does not take into account VST Arrays, so, wave tables will be ignored, you will have to add them manually..
I think thats about it... Hopefully it works for you..Just copy it to a folder and double click it..

There is an updated version of this available on this thread...
