Loading and saving sysex files

Postby jemap on Wed Sep 26, 2007 2:26 pm

I would like new load and save sysex files components.

The output/input could be a string array with hexadecimal values.

Those would be useful with other non-text files.

Thank you.

I want to give this topic a big BUMP.

I'm currently doing the finishing touches for a patch loader/manager for my Kawai K5000 Synthesizer and it would be a big plus if I coud save/load patch dumps to/from sysex files, sounddiver lib files, etc...

As jemap suggested loading/saving to/from String Arrays using the pseudo-hex representation of SM's sysex modules would be sufficient.

(Furthermore this could also be used to load/save from/to any binary file format)

I made a short program to convert sysex SYX files to text TXT files.

I will soon make a TXT to SYX program.

The SYXtoTXT.exe can be excuted as a stand alone program or with a drag and drop of a SYX file onto SYXtoTXT.exe file.

I didn't test it with the shell module within a SM shematic, but it should work; just put the SYX file as parameter and SYXtoTXT.exe as executable.

After connecting to the link below, type the 3 letters in the blank box and click on the "TELECHARGER" button.

SYXtoTXT.exe

Would there be a way to do this convertion inside SM? What are the sysex file specifications?

Any sourcecode available for the SYXtoTXT? Seems like a great app. Thank you :)

+1 , It is really useful to support sysex files (load, save) I don't know why they have not implement this feature yet.

I think:
1) SM was originally envisioned to be more of a synth-builder, not MIDI editor.
2) The SM-LUA project was to be able to handle SyEx, but that is now 2 years dead. :(

So what was the purpose of adding SysexStr and StrSysex modules to SM if it is only a synth builder I cant find any usage of Sysex in soft-synth programming. Anyway With slight changes in Text load & save modules and support for null character Sysex load will be available I believe it is not a tough work to implement.

They were added later after people requested them :)

Isn't this a de facto request to have SynthMaker be enabled to read binary files?
