Function Call primitive

Postby Tzarls on Sat Jun 06, 2009 1:52 am

What about having a primitive to send function calls and receive answers fro mthe host? It would be like "function name input (strings), number of arguments (int), the arguments themselves (float array), and the output as a float array. That would allows us to access VST functions not supported natively by SM, like the one asked for here:

to design goal of synthmaker was to remove function call overhead, I'm sorry but I cant see this happening because its the exact opposite of what the devs were trying (and have) achieved.

I´m sure there are primitives that work making function calls (or sending messages) to the host, lkke the Tempo primitive, of the SR, etc. Besides, the fact that you can use a function call doesn´t mean you have to use it, but it´s always good to know you have the possibility in case of need. And, if done in green, the overhead wouldn´t be that much, right? I don´t know much about this really, but I don´t think this would be that opposite to what SM is supposed to be. It would just be a nice addition, IMO.

yes when it comes to green things get a little odd, function calls to things do seem to take place? so green only functions could be made?

I think the original design goals went out the window with the FLS deal
The major portion of SM users now are users of FLS and to them it is just a modular part of FLS

Like it or not the registered users of the full version are the minority nowadays because FLS has a hell of a lot of users
So whatever SM was originally going to be is out the door anyway

It is going to be interesting to see where it goes from here and lets not forget Image line have a history of just buying up anything they package with FLS a while after the original packaging
Not saying that is what is going to happen here just stating previous history

Yeah, i still own Zero-X Seamless Looper yet the company has vanished now after the FL buy and it has lots of bugs like random crashes. I just hope SM won't do that also because it's a great product/app.
