Sequencing?

Postby sl23 on Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:26 pm

I just posted this topic http://synthmaker.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9711&p=71076#p71076 and was informed SynthMaker doesn't do sequencing.

Is there any possibility of this being added?

Don't hold your breath ;)
SM is not good for sequencing because the green/MIDI parts rely on windows timers - which are hopelessly inaccurate. There have been rumours/myths/legends of SM with a new timing system for a lo-oooooo-ong time, but, alas, we are still waiting.

Don't stagnate, mutate to create. Without randomness and serendipity the earth would be just another barren rock.

but there is no way to accurately spawn a voice without a green trigger or an external midi note on, so what you call sequencing is rather shaping a voice thats kept hold. maybe you still can call this sequencing yes.

Exactly how it was done in the old analogue days - that's why I said SM is 'not so good for' sequencing as opposed to 'impossible'.

yes, Michael and Trogluddite you're right.
I've built only a monophonic sequencer yet, where there was no need for voice management, only a little trick to keep a voice running: The start button triggered a note on event for the Midi to Poly module and the stop button triggered a note off event. The sequencer then generated gate signals for all envelopes.

I've to rethink that for polyphonic mode. Maybe a similar trick can be used.

Sigh!, SM not only needs better timing but also advanced voice management.
