What would it take for...

Postby sacredgeometry2 on Fri Sep 24, 2010 8:57 am

... You to release a OS X version?

Before you start, I know this has been posted before, hell I made a post about this in the past (I think even before 1.0 release (I cant remember my old login details it was that long ago))

What kind of resources would need to be pulled? Cost? Man-hours? etc I'm just trying to get an idea and trying to weight it against the potential market.

Im not asking "whens", just purely theoretical "ifs" and "hows."

Thanks

If(if) Malc had a Mac?
Would that help? I think we need VST3 too, but FlowStone is really the one now maybe.

I don´t loose my sleep over VST3 - I´d rather have 2.4, but seems we´re stuck with 2.3 anyway. (And as far as I´ve read, it shouldn´t be THAT hard to do the transition from 2.3 to 2.4).

But to the original question - I guess the most difficult thing would be to adapt the whole app to some kind of abstraction layer, in order to make it portable. Depending on how platform dependant SM´s source code is, that could even mean rewriting almost the whole app!

:D I got this mail from Malc when i registered and had problems dowloading the manual:

Hi Tor,

That's strange. It works ok on my PC but not on my Mac.

Try the Print version (there's a link to it just under the main link on our download page). Let me know if this works, it does for me.

I'll need to look into why there is a problem with the main version.

All the best,

Malc

So I guess he has a mac ;)

PG, the designer of Wavelab made his first MAC version. It appears he had to redesign Wavelab from ground up in order for it to work.

There are devices running about that can make a VST plug-in MAC friendly. I would imagine someone who is literate in Apple computers could try one of those wrappers.

However, it would be useless for those who don't own a MAC to troubleshoot one of their plug-ins sitting on a MAC platform malfunctioning.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll talk to him about Mac compatibility using VFX. Our GUIs don't show->
