SynthMakerPortable?

Postby sl23 on Tue Aug 10, 2010 4:23 pm

Is there any chance of SynthMaker being made portable? Or perhaps a Launcher being made such as PortableApps.com's Launcher?

what do you mean with portable? the only thing sm uses outside is that crappy "documents and other you will never want to know what else is hiding here bullshit" to store the user modules, but it also recognizes this folder inside its program directory.
maybe just try to copy the program folder to a stick and then run it on another machine, might work.

Hi again ;-)

Well PortableApps.com describe portable as:

http://portableapps.com/about/what_is_a_portable_app

Basically, everything the app requires to run and save settings is contained in the apps folder.

I have tried using X-Launcher v1.4 http://www.winpenpack.com/en/download.php?list.25 but SynthMakerCM starts fine but displays an error message window:

The install folder could not be found. Try re-installing the software.

Close this and it reappears another 5 times!!! As well as this there are a load of entries in the registry, and I don't know what they are or if they are important. If they are program settings then it wouldn't be portable.

Thanks

Edit:I shouldv'e said that I used UniExtract v1.6 to extract the contents from the SynthMakerCM.exe to a folder, that didn't work so next I tried installing and copied the program to another folder on another partition, then tried using X-Launcher but all have no effect on startup error. I even had a go at editing the SynthMaker registry entries for folder location. Still no luck!

Trouble is as I said before, I'm no programmer, so I don't know how to use the X-Launcher properly. It can be used to make programs like SynthMaker portable but they have strict rules as to what it's used for. I asked them for help using X-Launcher for Infix PDF Editor but they blanked me :-( X-Launcher is for Open Source only.

It depends on the platform.. Most phones don`t.. Some might.
Things that are written in asm could well be implemented.
But...

+1
Would prevent multi-install bugs.

MegaHurtz talks nonsensical sometimes... perhaps he lives near a "cafe" or something, since he is from NL afterall. ;)

yes, tomorrow is the update release of sm 1.2 which includes many of the current fs enhancements regarding audio dsp (sqrt in code) as a 20€ paid upgrade plus a portable version download option that doesnt unnecessarily install itself all over the place especially because of this thread.

Well making any program portable is not difficult at all.
Just follow these simple steps
1 Download VMWARE player and Cameyo (makes packages of any install) (search google)
2 install vmware
3 make an virtual machine in vmware (that is you install your windows into vmware)
4 then when thats all ready and windows is running in vmware you install cameyo in that virtual machine windows
5 then startup cameyo and you want to make a local package (choose isolated package in the settings)
6 cameyo will take a snapshot of all current windows settings
7 now install the program (you want to have as a portable device) the normal way
8 when install is ready then click the stop button from cameyo and a ready package will be made
9 now you may adjust some settings from the package if needed
10 copy the package to an usb stick and if all is ok you can run if from any pc without installing, you're done.

Simple hey !

i tried it, it works, yes also for SM.
