Different Knob Values translating to 0-127

Postby Cyforce on Sun Aug 07, 2011 1:19 pm

Is it possible to "transform" or "translated" different minimum and maxuimum values inside a knob like 0...1 or 0.2...0.7 to an additional float readout with the range of 0 - 127(stepped to 0,1,2...125,126,127)?

Use that little (P) in the lower-right hand corner.

Well i think i didn`t explain it clear enough what i meaned.
For example, i set the minimum zu 0.4 and maximum to 0.94, as value internal of the knob(little p......)
So there float readyout is between 0.4 and 0.95, logical.... but i need a way to have there a additional float readout, but in a tpyical midi cluster with stepped value in a range of 0 - 127 ;)

"Maths" folder has what you need, but you will have to use some Int math to get the whole-number stepping/rounding.

If you look inside the standard knobs, you can see that the min/max section is right at the end. The value coming out of the 'Preset' module is always zero to one - so a simple float multply from there will easily get you the MIDI range. SM will automatically round off floats if you put them straight into any integer connector.

PS The 0-1 range for the preset part is important if you are ever making your own knobs - that is the only range that the VST host will understand for automation.
Feel free to use any schematics and algorithms I post on the forum in your own designs - a credit is appreciated (but not a requirement).
Don't stagnate, mutate to create. Without randomness and serendipity the earth would be just another barren rock.

Exactly!
So if you need 2 ranges, you need to translate first to [0..1] then to what ever you need after the Presets module. If you want a different display that is not [0..1], & an extra output that is also different, then you need 3-4 translations.

This works for me
and the preset manager seems happy with it.

Yes exactly, see I wanted for you to learn for yourself! & you did it!
Caution: Those Min/Max modules have Wireless Outs, & I'm guessing you did not change their names from SM's defaults. SM may get confused or sum those values. You only need one.

Good to know, these run out to a selector so they are never both outputting at the same time guess thats why I've had no problems.
