Space Invader

Postby billv on Thu Aug 04, 2011 1:34 am

Being a 43-year old fart,I couldn't resist having a go at this,
because Space Invaders and Pacman were imprinted on my brain at a early age.
This Osm kind of shows what's possible.
But Other than to practice programming techniques-it is quite pointless.
The logistics of finishing this is a bit scary. Pacman looks easier to pull off.

HAHA, love it, great example of SM's versatility. this would make a good (back screen) on a VSTi

Very funny game, lots of memories! What makes me sad is the fact that SM is actually good for visual things like this but still there is no way to trigger a single compressed sound format for sound effects in SM!

Thanks guys. It's a good laugh yeh?

Not sure what you mean by this. You can load a wav into a wave player and trigger at will, and
have sound effects all over the place.
My example dosn't have sound because i was focusing on the other stuff.
If anything, SM to me is perfect for adding sound to a game.
Look at it this way-
Most Game compilers offer you a chance to play a wav or midi file somewhere in the game.
Look what SM Offers the Game maker-Virtually unlimited sound potential.
So, for sound effects in a game, SM Should be brilliant.
An Perfect Pitch Ear Training game would be easy, for eg.

Here's Pacman.
The core basic's are there: User control, Dots to eat, A monster going around.
Would be easy to take this all the way.

haha great billv! :) here is a early version of my (nevwer finished) pacman clone.
no monsters, no items BUT with soundFX....
use cursor keys to control the pacman.
@billv: would be nice if we could finish/optimise the pacman OSM .
if you´d like to colaborate just open a new thread in the projects forum and i am "in the team" :D

Not a bad idea. I'll open a Project.
Time for me is limited as I just started working full time again( So my SM holiday is over) But I'm in no hurry,
so why not.Slowly chip away at it and see what happens.

For this project you could do 'compression' in a proper 1980's style... 8bit audio at 11kHz SR! ;)

Yeh exactly. There were some cool melodies back then.
The tune from Donkey Kong still comes back in my head regularly to this day.
Never ceases to amaze me about how powerful Music is.

It's very old now, but this old Commodore 64 plugin is still one of my favourites.
