Purring Cat synth

Postby lesobrod on Sun Aug 14, 2011 12:45 pm

Here it is Purring Cat' sound synthesizer. (^__^)
Everyone easy can understand the schematic and how it works.
For me the sound is good enough and there are many possibilities
to do new presets.
But I will looking forward to your guys opinions, jokes and suggestions. :D

Something more about.
It is known that cat's purring sound is combination of harmonical resonances
with fundamental from 20 to 30 Hz and some noizy background (huffing, puffing, blowing etc.)
There is a realistic hypothesis that cats using such sound for self-healing in very general sense -
when they feel good and safety, purr helps to distribute "positive energy" all over the body
(and soul ???), especially to where there is problem, pain etc.
Most of people like this sound. Of course a real cat is the best source of sounds, love, health,
claws and egoism. But I've found that hearing this synth 5-10 min makes really feel better
so just try! 3:)

Sine bank produce resonances; filters make noise from pure white noise;
breath section contain periodical part (with AHDSR) and background noise.
The volume of each part slow random modulated (limits and freq are tunable).
The main section (purring core) have base (fundamental) freq knob,
mixer for all possible sound, reverb panel and breath freq section. Small Res gives
chaotic breath, max Res - almost periodical.

hehe, lots of cat people in synthesis.. I like the sound when the noise is stripped from the purring core,
nice little detuned sine going there.

So It seems that fundamental freq is slow modulated too.. Cats are so meaningfull
Here is some upgrade. It eats 10% total CPU as .exe on my 2 GHz 2 Gb old notebook so it's not bad.

Cool - you are taking SM to places it has never been before.
I heard of synths with physical modelling, but now you bring us a biological modelling synth! ;)

Yes, playing with SM is not the same since my kitty died last year - I kind of miss him trying to sit on my keyboard when I am working. :(

Yes sorry too. My own cat died many years ago so now I'm (just as a maniac)
watch for a neighbour's cats to play...

Aah, thanks guys - I'm cool with it though, he was very old and had lived all 9 lives to the full.

LOL!
I always had my suspicions that all those vid's must have been staged - whenever I've pointed a camera at a cat, they always refused point blank to do anything (not even funny 'anything', just anything at all!) ;)

I had to secretly hack into his web-cam to get this picture of my former 'Master' devising his latest scheme to get me to open the refrigerator (no image editing trickery was used at all - honest ;) )

That cat sound is fun! good programming :) i figured one with a pulse wave source and a bandpass filter going to the scale of the lungs with a low pass over it as it goes through the ribs and another bandpass with a high res to the scale of the nostrils/sinuses.

nightingale is a fun easy sound to emulate because it is mostly just a sine with about 7 8 lfo's on it, i did one and totally misplaced it!
nightingale can 90 percent be emulated with random squiggely sweeps from .5 to 7 khz for a sine lfo that randomises squigely shape with the right time delays.
