SynthMaker provides intuitive access to principles of Digital Signal Processing via a graphical interface that eliminates the need for computer programming skills. It also gives you the ability to make standalone musical instruments (as VST plug-ins) that deliver uncompromised sound quality for live music production.
For a Music Technology group this combination is unrivalled and invaluable for both teaching, learning and for practical use as a tool for making music.
Easy to learn, hard to outgrow
Export as VST plugins, create standalone applications
For teaching, learning and for practical music applications
To quote the review in Computer Music Magazine:
SynthMaker is also very useful in a live classroom situation. Dave finds that whenever he wants to demonstrate a point he can use small pre-built examples. It's very useful to be able to embed analysis tools into the program especially when dealing with synthesis theory.
A clincher for the adoption of SynthMaker by Leeds Met was the fact that you can export VST plugins with extreme ease. This is a key feature of SynthMaker and not something that can be done with other programs currently being used for teaching.
Try SynthMaker free of charge
If you like what you've seen here then why not take the application for a spin and try it free of charge for 30 days?

Accessible DSP Software for Music Technology
One of the 5 Music Studios at Leeds Met where SynthMaker is installed
At Leeds Metropolitan University 100 licenses are installed in the Music Department, where the students are enthusiastic about the capabilities of SynthMaker as a practical music tool and as an educational vehicle. Dave Raybould from Leeds was initially attracted to the crisp, clean user interface which he believed would make it easier to get the students into the program
Don't be fooled by the ease of use and beauty of SynthMaker though - a real powerhouse application sits under the hood. The power of SynthMaker as a platform for the modular development of software synthesisers is in no way compromised. Quite the opposite in fact - our philosophy is based on exposing the power of technology through usability.
This makes it ideal for demanding students in Music Technology who need the sound quality and the flexibility but may not have programming skills - SynthMaker gives them unlimited potential without the need to write a line of code.
" Easy enough to knock out simple designs very quickly, though if you
rewarded with plug-ins of considerable power."
invest some serious time you'll be
Dave Raybould and his students have found the software very easy to get to grips with. The software is being used on the Music Technology course by students studying modules in Music & Sound Synthesis and Audio Processing.
Around 100 undergraduate students are using SynthMaker for a variety of educational and musical purposes including:
creating multi FX units as an educational exercise,
creating software synthesisers and
using synthesisers created in SynthMaker in the development of compositions.
Even though they have only used SynthMaker for short period of time, this first cohort of students expects to continue using the software throughout their studies. By their third year of study they will have the opportunity to undertake major research projects using SynthMaker.
The software also allows Dave to give these examples directly to the students regardless of whether they own a copy of the software themselves. The fact that these examples can be packaged into standalone .exe files is great as it means they will run on any computer and can be offered to the students as learning aids.
SynthMaker has an active user community with a friendly collegiate feel. This reflects the culture of Outsim and encourages the sharing of thousands of pages of information on hundreds of topics. As a resource for the student this is invaluable Dave particularly likes the fact that the directors of Outsim regularly post replies and so users have direct access to the developers of the software.
SynthMaker is currently being successfully used for teaching in educational establishments. One of the largest install bases is at Leeds Metropolitan University in the UK.
